In this series of articles we are covering “The 4 Basic Prepping Categories” which focus on your primary needs if you would ever have to endure an emergency or hardship.  These 4 basic categories are water, food, shelter, and security.  In our first article we covered the basic planning involved to cover the water needs of you and your loved ones.  If you haven’t read that article yet, click here.  In part 2 of this series, we are going to go over the second category covered in the 4 basic prepping categories, food.

Hey Ready Center Bloggers!

Today is Thanksgiving.  For many of us, it is a day of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and naps.  And as much as we all enjoy luscious food and long hard naps, it is our wish for you that words, thoughts, and prayers of thankfulness are on your heart, as they are most certainly on ours.  We  have so much to be grateful for, regardless of how things in the personal, financial, political, or international realms appear.  In this country, we have many liberties that most people on this earth have never had the opportunity to experience, and for that, we should be truly grateful.

At The Ready Center, we are eternally grateful for our family and friends, our freedom of speech via writing the Ready Center Blog, and our brothers and sisters in the U.S. Military who are currently in harm’s way on our behalf and are unable to be with their loved ones for this holiday.  We are also thankful for all of you who take the time to read The Ready Center Blog and follow it via email subscription.  Without your support and personal interest in doing what is best for you, your loved ones, and your community, this project would have never taken off.  We are most certainly very humbled and very grateful.

May you be blessed on this wonderful American holiday.

Happy Prepping and Happy Thanksgiving.

If you’re like most people, when it comes to preparing for a disaster or emergency, it can be really easy to become overwhelmed.  What exactly do I need?  How much do I need?  Where do I buy it?  What am I preparing for again?  And where do I start anyways?  If any of this sounds at all familiar, you’re not alone.  As a matter of fact, you’re in good company.

We are beginning a 4 part series titled, “Starting with the Basics”, in which we hope to aid those who are new to the preparedness scene and are looking for a place to start.  We have broken it down into what we are calling the “The 4 Basic Prepping (more…)

I have had the pleasure of living and surviving in the rigidly cold and darn near frozen states of North Dakota, Minnesota, and Alaska.  Spending the vast majority of my life within these three states I have learned to appreciate and enjoy the value of heat.  And for a lot of people, burning wood is a huge part of producing that heat.  The use of fire places and wood burning stoves as a source of heat has been around for thousands of years and to this day it is still a realistic and viable alternative to (more…)

The truth is that you are more than likely a prepper already and don’t even know it.  And if you’re not, you should be…

A prepper is an individual, or group of individuals, who make preparations in advance of any situation that may force them to operate outside of their normal lifestyle or circumstances.  These situations can be long term or short term and may range from international world events to “neighborhood only” events.  A recent example of one of these situations would be the communities on the east coast that were detrimentally affected by hurricane Sandy.  A great multitude of people were left without electricity, heat, food, water, gasoline, as well as personal protection against unwanted looters.  However, the preppers living within that (more…)
