At The Ready Center, we keep all of our articles within the parameters of preparedness.  The following article falls within the security portion of preparedness  It is a repost of an article that was originally posted @ The D.C. There is a disease spreading, a disease that is as old as time itself.  It is highly contagious and spread not by germs, but by the human psyche.  It is incapacitating, crippling, and like a cancer it eats away at hope and life.  This disease I speak of is FEAR.

Fear itself is not a bad thing and there are many different facets to it.  Fear is a beneficial instinct given to us by our creator to help protect us from the harms of life.  If we fear nothing, then

As we continue to cover the basics here at The Ready Center Blog, it would be a crying shame if we didn’t take the time to acknowledge the television series that took prepping mainstream.  National Geographic’s Doomsday Preppers debuted in February of 2012 and gained popularity almost instantly.  What’s more amazing than its instant popularity is that it did so well that an entire second season aired only 8 months later.  Pretty impressive.  The program is documentary-like as each episode follows the lives of 3 different “preppers” and shows what methods of preparedness they use as they prepare for TEOTWAWKI (see glossary).  In order to make the program more interesting, each individual is not allowed to state that they are simply “preparing for a disaster or emergency”.  Instead, the producers mandate that each individual (more…)

The truth is that you are more than likely a prepper already and don’t even know it.  And if you’re not, you should be…

A prepper is an individual, or group of individuals, who make preparations in advance of any situation that may force them to operate outside of their normal lifestyle or circumstances.  These situations can be long term or short term and may range from international world events to “neighborhood only” events.  A recent example of one of these situations would be the communities on the east coast that were detrimentally affected by hurricane Sandy.  A great multitude of people were left without electricity, heat, food, water, gasoline, as well as personal protection against unwanted looters.  However, the preppers living within that (more…)
