The Walking Dead Season 5 - The Ready Center

Article submitted by Brian S. Kiefat @ The Ready Center

TWD5 00000Well, here it is…  After months of anticipation, excitement (and a great deal of frustration), AMC’s The Walking Dead returns to us tonight at 9pm (8pm Central Standard Time).  Tonight is the fist of sixteen episodes planned for season 5.  To be honest, I was pretty upset when I heard season 5 was only going to be 16 episodes!  I mean, does AMC really think that we the fans won’t be able to support an additional 4 episodes to round it off at an even twenty?!  (to tell AMC you want 20 episodes in season 6 click here)  After I calmed down from that self inflicted hysteria, I recalled how far The Walking Dead has actually come.  When season 1 first came out it was unheard of, unsupported, and was only a measly 6 episodes.  Fast forward to now and you have the most watched drama in basic cable history.  Why?  Three words – Basic Human Survival.

Yes, The Walking Dead has (more…)

NBC Revolution Power is Everything - The Ready CenterOn May 9, 2014, bad news came to those of us who have come to appreciate the American Post-Apacalyptic television genre.  NBC announced that it would not  renew Revolution for a 3rd season.

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of viewing Revolution, it really is an outstanding show.  It came from the director of IronMan and was produced by J.J. Abrams (the guy who brought us LOST).

Revolution takes place 15 years after the start of a worldwide, permanent electrical-power blackout.  All electricity on Earth was suddenly disabled at a moment’s notice.  Trains and cars stopped where they were, ships went dead in the water, and aircraft fell from the sky and crashed.  No cell phones, no working gasoline pumps, no running water, no grocery stores full of products, and for many people, no hope.  People were forced to adapt to a world without electricity over the next fifteen years.  The story (more…)

The Ready Center Tactical

I found another old email from a friend and thought I’d share it.  If you own a gun, you will appreciate this. If you don’t own a gun, you should get one and learn how to use it.

A: Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians.

B: Its always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

C: Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.

D: Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arms length.

E: Never say “I’ve got a gun.” If you need to use deadly force, the first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off. (I prefer the sound of a slug being chambered when you cock a shotgun)

F: The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes, the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

G: The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win – cheat if necessary.

H: If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

J: In a life and death situation, do something . . . It may be wrong, but do something!

K: If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about? (I call it being prepared)

L: You can say ‘stop’ or ‘alto’ or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much a universal language. (more…)

$10 Bill The Ready Center

Article submitted by Brian S. Kiefat @ The Ready Center

It’s that time again!  Time for what…?  Time to take seriously the safety and preservation of you and your family.  Time to take a moment and plan ahead.  Time to pull $20 out of your wallet and invest it in your future.  This month we recommend you take your 20 big bucks and exchange them for two $10 bills.  And for good reason…

As part of the Prepping on $20 a Paycheck series, the goal is to have you stocked with water, food, a pack full of supplies, and $100 emergency cash stocked away for REALLY rainy days.  When it comes to the “cash on hand”, we should all already have the following:

  1. One roll of quarters
  2. Ten $1 bills
  3. Four $5 bills

Total Amount So Far: $40

Today, we want you to bump up your post-apocalypse money stash up to a whopping $60.  The plan is to purposely vary your emergency cash denominations with the intent of you not losing money during barter/haggle (more…)

MT 4 - The Ready Center

Fact:  Not all tools are equal.  A wood saw can never be a wrench.  A hammer can never be a screwdriver.  And a needle-nose can never be a hacksaw.  Period.

One of the things we discussed in a previous article (click here) is that nobody wants to carry a whole toolbox worth of tools inside their Survival Kit.  Doing so would 1) be stupid. and 2) add so much weight that it would literally render it unusable if you ever (more…)

The Walking Dead Season 4 - The Ready Center

Article Submitted by Brian S. Kiefat @ The Ready Center

Here at The Ready Center we try to spend more time preparing you, rather than entertaining you.  We hope you appreciate that and find value in the substance that we put forth.  However, every once in a while we do like to drop you reminders of survival, preparedness, and post-apacolyptic tv shows that most (or some) of you would enjoy.  The Walking Dead Season 4 is one of them.

The Walking Dead is the most watched drama in the history of basic cable – and that’s no small feat.  The show follows a group of survivors as they live in a post-apacolyptic world in which a pandemic claimed a great majority of the world’s population causing those who have passed away to rise again and prey on the living.  This drama centers around a man named Rick, a former deputy sheriff, who essentially becomes the group’s leader as they do their best to work together in what seems like a hopeless environment.   Previous seasons have shown the hardships of living in a world void of our loved ones, the danger and trauma involved of fighting off the flesh-eating walking dead, as well as the horrific notion that even the worst attacks can come from those who are still living.

This season promises to build on these platforms by showing us that….  um…. well…. we don’t know.  BUT, we hear it’s going to be pretty dang amazing!  And the video trailer below will give you a taste of what’s in store for this season.

Watch the preview, watch season 4, and tell us what you think.  Enjoy!

Make Ready,

The Ready Center
