After dealing with the onslaught of “Memorial Day” photos all over Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and the rest of the internet, it seems necessary that someone remind America what Memorial Day is really about.  And what it’s not about.

The Ready Center - Life Straw 2

Article submitted by Brian S. Kiefat @ The Ready Center

The recommendation that we make in the “Prepping on $20 a Paycheck” series are usually pretty broad.  We do our best to leave color, style, brand, etc. up for your choosing.  However this time we’re not going to do that.  Nothing about this recommendation can or should be left for interpretation, so let me make this crystal clear for you:  We want you to buy yourself a LifeStraw.

This is the one and only time during the “Prepping on $20 a Paycheck” series that we will deliberately tell you to go out and purchase a very specific brand of product.  This is not a sales gimmick for us.  The Ready Center is not “in bed” with LifeStraw or vice versa.  As a matter of fact, The Ready Center doesn’t even sell the LifeStraw.  The reason for this plainly stated recommendation is simple:  It’s an awesome Read the rest of this entry »

NBC Revolution Power is Everything - The Ready CenterOn May 9, 2014, bad news came to those of us who have come to appreciate the American Post-Apacalyptic television genre.  NBC announced that it would not  renew Revolution for a 3rd season.

For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of viewing Revolution, it really is an outstanding show.  It came from the director of IronMan and was produced by J.J. Abrams (the guy who brought us LOST).

Revolution takes place 15 years after the start of a worldwide, permanent electrical-power blackout.  All electricity on Earth was suddenly disabled at a moment’s notice.  Trains and cars stopped where they were, ships went dead in the water, and aircraft fell from the sky and crashed.  No cell phones, no working gasoline pumps, no running water, no grocery stores full of products, and for many people, no hope.  People were forced to adapt to a world without electricity over the next fifteen years.  The story Read the rest of this entry »

The Ready Center - Water 1

A water-purification minded inventor by the name of Glen Meder, along with APN (American Preppers Network), is hosting a free web seminar entitled “Understanding Red Cross Recommendations for Treating Water in an Emergency!”  The online event is scheduled to take place Thursday May 15 at 7pm Central (8pm EST/6pm MST/5pm PST).  Will this seminar be any good?!  I honestly don’t know, but I can tell you one thing for sure – the price is right.

This free web based event is scheduled to cover the following water purification related topics Read the rest of this entry »

The Ready Center Tactical

I found another old email from a friend and thought I’d share it.  If you own a gun, you will appreciate this. If you don’t own a gun, you should get one and learn how to use it.

A: Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians.

B: Its always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

C: Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.

D: Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arms length.

E: Never say “I’ve got a gun.” If you need to use deadly force, the first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off. (I prefer the sound of a slug being chambered when you cock a shotgun)

F: The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes, the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

G: The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win – cheat if necessary.

H: If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

J: In a life and death situation, do something . . . It may be wrong, but do something!

K: If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about? (I call it being prepared)

L: You can say ‘stop’ or ‘alto’ or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much a universal language. Read the rest of this entry »
